GLEN MILLS, Pa. – The first week of October, Maris Grove, an Erickson Living retirement community, celebrated its 10 year anniversary with a variety of special events and activities.
"I am proud to work each day with such a dedicated staff who are passionate about serving those who call this fabulous community home," said Executive Director Maureen Heckler. "By remaining steadfast in our commitment to providing exceptional customer service, we are recognized as a leading senior living provider. Moving forward, we're excited to help meet the demand for quality senior housing in Glen Mills."
Starting off the celebration was a tree planting ceremony near the entrance of the community. "The tree is symbolic; its roots will expand and make a new home for itself here at Maris Grove," said resident Mary Ann Starkey. "The tree will grow and flourish, just as we have when we decided to expand our roots here at Maris Grove."
The weeklong celebrated included, a luncheon for "pioneer" residents and staff who have been with Maris Grove since its opening in 2006, a Champagne toast at both of Maris Grove's restaurants, an in-house TV show which highlighted the community's history and vibrant lifestyle over the last 10 years, as well as an art show featuring resident artists.
The final event involved local political officials presenting commemorative citations to community leadership during a reception. Congressman Patrick Meehan, State Senator Tom Killion, State Representative Steve Barrar and Chairman of the Concord Township board of supervisors, Dominic Pileggi, all attended the ceremony.
During Representative Steve Barrar's presentation of a commemorative proclamation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, he noted having the distinct honor of attending the community's groundbreaking event in 2005, and how Delaware County continues to benefit from the lifestyle enjoyed by seniors at Maris Grove.
On Oct. 2, 2006, Maris Grove opened its doors to its first resident. Since then, the Glen Mills retirement community has grown to over 1,500 residents, who are served by 550 full and part-time employees. The community is currently constructing its third independent living neighborhood and anticipates this project to be completed in the summer of 2017.
Over the last 10 years, Maris Grove has proven to be a dedicated community partner. Residents have contributed approximately $1 million to the Student Scholarship Fund and in 2016 alone logged over 60,000 hours of volunteer service for their peers and other worthy causes around southeastern Pennsylvania.
