Residents of Erickson Senior Living community Novi enjoy an array of floor plan options

Marie Pryce loves her cozy one-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath residence at Fox Run, the Erickson Senior Living community in Novi, Mich.--and so do her two cats, Ollie and Astrid.

"My other place had two bedrooms, but I hardly used the second one," says Marie. "I'm perfectly comfortable with the amount of room. I have a large master bedroom and bath. I like having a washer and dryer in my apartment. And I still have a nice large kitchen and plenty of living space."

According to Sales Counselor Carolyn Ives, Marie isn't the only retiree who wanted to "simplify life." As a result, one-bedroom residences at Fox Run are very popular.

"When someone selects a one-bedroom residence, the square footage is often comparable to the amount of space they are currently utilizing in their house," she explains. "For many incoming residents, retirement is the perfect time to rightsize and simplify. With our maintenance-free residences, that's easy to do."

Great financial value

Wave goodbye to raking leaves and shoveling snow! At Fox Run, campus landscaping and residence maintenance--including repair and replacement of appliances--is taken care of by the general services team.

And thanks to the monthly service package, costs for heating and air conditioning, most utilities, and a chosen meal plan at on-site restaurants are bundled into one predictable bill.

"Many people think they cannot afford to live at Fox Run, but in many cases, they may actually save money--especially if they select a one bedroom," explains Ives. "You won't have to pay for property taxes and outside maintenance, and you won't have to worry about unpredictable costs like replacing a furnace or repairing a leaky roof."

Marie has experienced this firsthand. "They came in and washed all my windows," she says. "I didn't have to do it."

So many activities

Thanks to Fox Run's carefree lifestyle, residents have more time to pursue passions or start new hobbies. With more than 150 clubs and groups to choose from, the opportunities are nearly endless.

"Residents find that they have access to all kinds of different spaces by just walking down the hall," says Ives. "There are large clubhouses within walking distance that can provide a space to host a dinner party in a private dining room or to play cards with friends."

"I have access to all the amenities here. I'm not in my apartment all that often because I'm out and about doing activities," says Marie, who enjoys using the saltwater pool and takes yoga classes and a "Sit and Be Fit" exercise class.

She's also a member of a fabric craft group, which made Christmas cards for residents in memory care at the community's continuing care neighborhood.

When the weather is warmer, Marie plays bocce with a group of friends on campus. She enjoys playing euchre and pinochle as well. Once a month, Marie attends a trivia event, and she's even played bingo.

To enhance her well-being, she has taken a mindfulness-based stress reduction class that was offered at the on-site medical center. She has attended musical performances and educational lectures as well.

"There are always events going on," notes Marie. "I just keep busy!"

Family time

As a mother of two and grandmother to four, Marie appreciates that she has the opportunity to spend more time with two grandchildren who live nearby: Sawyer, 12, and Sloan, 15.

"While I've played bocce with my grandson here, he said that's not his game," Marie says, with a laugh. "But he and I played billiards recently, and he thought that was pretty cool."

Some days, Marie picks up her grandkids from school and brings them to Fox Run. When their mom gets off work, she stops by on her way home, and they have dinner together as a family.

"It's a nice visit," says Marie, who is very glad she made the move, as she sees it as a gift to her children. "They don't have to worry about me. I made the decision to move here myself, and I'm really happy."

Don't wait!

Because the community's one-bedroom floor plans are on pace to sell out, Ives encourages anyone considering rightsizing to join Fox Run's Priority List.

"Not only will you save a place in line for an available residence," she says, "you'll also receive invites to educational events where you can learn more about our affordable pricing and worry-free lifestyle."
