Residents of Fox Run, the Erickson Senior Living community in Novi, enjoy new amenities like outdoor pickleball courts.

Fox Run, the Erickson Senior Living community in Novi, Mich., celebrated its 20th anniversary last year by unveiling brand-new amenities. But they didn't stop there. 2024 brought another exciting array of amenities, all informed by resident feedback.

"We're constantly looking for opportunities to upgrade and renovate," says Executive Director Ashley Bulat. "We continue investing in the campus so residents can enjoy an unmatched lifestyle."

And residents are doing just that! With new pickleball and bocce courts, remodeled fitness centers, and a redesigned medical center, Fox Run residents have everything they need to care for their health and well-being in a vibrant environment.

"No one comes close to us in terms of amenities and services, and we want to continue building on that," adds Bulat.

'Recreation destination'

Pickleball has swept the nation, and Fox Run is no exception. Since the addition of two new regulation-size pickleball courts, residents have incorporated this lively sport into their exercise routines.

The courts are located near the community's entrance, surrounded by beautiful landscaping.

"As soon as people pull onto campus, they'll be able to see all that recreational activity," says Bulat. "We also added lighting to really enhance the courts. It enables folks to play later in the day, if they choose."

The new bocce court, adjacent to the pickleball courts, has also been a huge hit. This makes for the second bocce court on campus, as there is another located in Windsor Terrace, Fox Run's new continuing care neighborhood.

And now, spectators can comfortably get in on the action with the addition of chairs and a large, double-sided bench, which runs between the pickleball and bocce courts.

"The entire space has now become a recreation destination that we're proud of," Bulat says.

Close collaboration

Decisions about new amenities, like the pickleball and bocce courts, are informed by resident feedback.

"Their feedback is a gift," says Bulat, who works closely with the Resident Advisory Council to gather insight. "Outdoor spaces continue to be important because residents are focused on their health and well-being. Our residents want to continue pursuing the passions they had before coming to the community."

Last year, Fox Run completely remodeled the fitness centers and renovated the indoor pool area, and this year, the locker rooms were updated to create a more modern look--each step made with residents' approval.

"We focused on functionality, but we also wanted to make sure that it looked and felt good because we have residents who use the pool and fitness center on a regular basis," says Bulat.

She adds, "We want feedback on big and small projects, such as the locker rooms, because we want to be sure we're delivering what our residents want."

Associate Executive Director Angelo Nardoni notes that closing the communication loop is just as important. "Whenever any project is completed," he explains, "we always work with the residents who were involved to see what we can do in the future."

Five-star care

To round out the community's well-being offerings, Fox Run's medical center received a major overhaul with state-of-the-art upgrades.

The reception and waiting area was redesigned to include more space, additional exam rooms received new computers, and a brand-new lab was added. Also, all exam tables boast rising and warming features for residents' comfort.

"Fox Run's practice has grown as well," notes Bulat.

There are now three full-time physicians, a staff podiatrist, five medical assistants who are trained to perform laboratory work on-site, and a medical social worker who provides case management and counseling. Mental health specialists also partner with the health care staff and work out of the medical center.

Industry-leading amenities

Current Fox Run residents are impressed with these changes and new amenities--and so are their future neighbors. In fact, Fox Run is on pace to sell out of apartment homes.

"People are flocking to our community now more than ever before, due to our incredible amenities and how gorgeous the community looks after this refresh," says Sales Director Allison Murphy.

"We really strive for that 'wow factor,'" adds Bulat. "We're constantly challenging ourselves to ensure that we're leading the industry. For residents who've just moved in, they feel like they're living in a brand-new community."
