Residents at Fox Run, the Erickson Senior Living community in Novi, enjoy amenities and activities that enhance their lives.

Every morning, Jon and Rosie Blum share breakfast in the kitchen of their three-bedroom, two-bath apartment home at Fox Run, the Erickson Senior Living community in Novi, Mich.

As soon as the orange juice and butter are back in the fridge, Jon is out the door to collect the mail.

"Fox Run is a bustling, social community," says Jon. "I like getting to know new people. Everyone--from the staff to the residents--are friendly here. Many of them stop to chat, which I love to do!"

With maintenance-free apartment homes, an array of activities, and top-notch amenities, Fox Run residents enjoy a carefree lifestyle that affords them plenty of time to make new friends, pursue their interests, and even pick up a hobby.

Enjoyable mornings

Even though it should only take him five minutes to get the mail, Jon says it often takes him an hour.

"The mailroom is just a short stroll from our apartment home, but I always see lots of neighbors getting their mail or walking in the hall, so we take time to talk," says Jon.

Once a month, Jon heads from the mail room to the Performing Arts Center, where he leads the community's astronomy club.

"If it's a nice day, I'll walk outside. If not, it's still convenient to get there. All the buildings on campus are connected via climate-controlled walkways, so you can get from your apartment home to any club, class, or restaurant and never have to go outside," he explains.

Jon also loves attending the monthly Coffee with Ashley sessions, when Executive Director Ashley Bulat answers residents' questions over a morning cup of joe. For Bulat, it's a great way to hear residents' thoughts on the community's services and amenities.

Active afternoons

When lunchtime rolls around, he heads back home to eat with Rosie.

"The dinners served at the restaurants here are so large that, every night, we cut them in half, eat half, and take the other half home to eat for lunch the next day," he explains. "The food is wonderful!"

With an afternoon full of meetings, Jon heads out once more. He serves on the Resident Advisory Council's dining committee, is active in the genealogy club with Rosie, attends history club meetings, and goes to the Shalom Club meetings for people who are Jewish or who want to learn more about the religion.

Every two months, he hosts New Day, a program on the in-house TV channel. Every six weeks, he tastes the latest dishes to be offered in the restaurants and gives his opinion on the show Weekly Dining Specials.

He also enjoys attending the monthly News and Views sessions, during which the directors of each department at Fox Run tell residents about the latest happenings. As a resident ambassador, Jon also attends luncheons hosted by the sales team for prospective residents of Fox Run.

Relaxing evenings

Jon credits their maintenance-free apartment home for his busy schedule.

"If an appliance needs to be repaired or a lightbulb has to be replaced, it's all taken care of by General Services with one phone call," he notes. "That's one of my favorite things about Fox Run! I don't have to cut the lawn, shovel the show, or change a furnace filter."

Now, Jon and Rosie get to do whatever they want with their free time--like go out to dinner at the five restaurants on campus.

"Some people have their favorite restaurant and just eat there. But we make our rounds among all of them so we have variety," he says. "I get six items for dinner every night: soup, salad, entrée, potato, vegetable, and dessert. You can see why we have enough left over for lunch!"

Because they eat at a different restaurant each night, the couple gets the chance to dine with different neighbors as well.

"I love getting to know everyone. Every resident has got an amazing, wonderful life story to share," Jon says. "When I hear that someone new has moved in, the first thing I want to do is chat with them over dinner."

'So much to enjoy'

Just as he tells prospective residents, Jon offers this advice: "If you're thinking about a move to Fox Run, move in now because there's so much to enjoy!"
