Everyone has their own story when it comes to the choices they make for retirement. But something residents at Eagle's Trace, the Erickson Senior Living community in West Houston, Tex., have in common is the desire to experience a vibrant, engaging lifestyle supported by a robust offering of amenities, resources, and services.
Since moving to Eagle's Trace in December 2022, Barbara and Alan Turboff have made the most of their new lifestyle.
"The peace of mind we have living here is unbeatable," says Barbara. "We're able to focus on what we enjoy, like all the different classes and activities. There are so many to choose from!"
Recently, Tribune sat down with Barbara to learn more about what motivated them to make the move to Eagle's Trace and how their life has changed for the better.
Tribune: What led you to consider Eagle's Trace?
Barbara: We loved our house--we lived there for 40 years. Plus, we had just finished a remodel, so we weren't thinking about making a move any time soon! However, we were growing concerned that our neighborhood wasn't as safe as it used to be.
When I was out and about one day, I met someone who lived at Eagle's Trace, and they had nothing but amazing things to say. I went home, told Alan that we needed to check out the community, and called the Sales Center.
We toured the campus the following Monday, and we loved it just as much as the resident did. The next day, we put down a deposit to become Priority List members, which secured our spot in line for an apartment home.
Tribune: What prompted you to make the move?
Barbara: We toured a couple of floor plan designs in person, but we had done some work ahead of time and previewed several apartment home walkthroughs online. We knew exactly what we were looking for! Luckily, an apartment home was available that fit all our needs.
After reserving the apartment home, we took advantage of the realty and moving services that are offered to Priority List members. We hadn't sold our house yet, so we worked with a recommended real estate company to put our house on the market. Once we packed everything up, we recruited the help of some trusted movers to get everything to Eagle's Trace. Everything went so smoothly!
Tribune: Have you customized your new home?
Barbara: We're working on it! We loved our apartment home as is, but we're getting ready to remodel the den. Alan wanted an office space, so we're adding closets on both sides of the room, lighting, and a built-in desk with cabinets. It's going to be beautiful. And since I make jewelry, we transformed the second bedroom into an art studio.
Having two bathrooms was important for us as well. We have a very large floor plan! Having a patio with an expansive view of the lake and a separate laundry room was the icing on the cake.
Tribune: How are you involved on campus?
Barbara: Soon after we moved in, I joined the jewelry club here, which has a great mission. When we finish making pieces in the community's jewelry studio, we sell them, and all proceeds are donated to community efforts. I also love participating in the line dancing club. When we perform, it's rewarding to see neighbors' faces light up! It's so much fun. Alan and I also take advantage of the fitness centers here.
Tribune: What do you like most about living at Eagle's Trace?
Barbara: Having a maintenance-free apartment home has been a game changer. We felt like we were constantly dealing with repairs in our old house. It seemed like every week someone was coming by to maintain our yard, water filtration system, security system, you name it. When we added up all these expenses, we saw that it would cost less to live at Eagle's Trace than to live there. And now, we have access to tons of amenities too!
Peace of mind is a big factor as well. We feel incredibly safe living here. We also appreciate knowing that, if or when we need additional support, we will be well cared for here.
