When Tom Brotherton and his wife Ann began exploring their senior living options, they were looking for a retirement community near their family, one that offered a range of on-site health care services.

And if a resident decides they want to keep their existing primary care provider, they can do that too--and visit the medical center for flu shots, tests, and screenings.

"I've found there's a very cooperative relationship between our outside primary care physician and our physicians here at Eagle's Trace," says Tom. "Plus, they interact with outside specialists if necessary. The integration of health care was a deciding factor for us."

He adds, "We take advantage of the vaccinations that are available at the medical center--the COVID vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine, and the flu vaccine in the fall."

Continuum of care

Eagle's Trace also has a continuing care neighborhood on campus to support residents who would benefit from higher levels of care.

"We are in independent living now," notes Tom, "but if we need assistance, either in the apartment or in the care unit here, we have that integration to move from one level to another."

Tremaine notes that this concept of aging in place is a real draw for many prospective residents.

"Not every retirement community has medical care on campus," Tremaine says. "With rehabilitation services, assisted living, memory care, and long-term care available here, you can get additional support if or when you need it."

And with security team members who are trained in emergency response and on call 24/7, residents know they will always have a quick response after medical center hours and on weekends.

"If a resident calls security, we encourage them to follow up with us at the medical center," notes Tremaine. "Whether they come back the next day, two days later, three days later, or a week later, we check in with them. We really care for our patients."

He adds, "Our attention and focus is on preventive care. Our residents' well-being is a priority."
