HOUSTON, TX---"What a wonderful thing is the mail, capable of conveying across continents a warm human hand clasp." -Anonymous
Words could not convey the feelings of most Americans when learning of the tragic event at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14th.
A month later, written words are what residents of Eagle's Trace, the Erickson Living retirement community in Houston, hope provide a level of comfort and support to the school's students.
Coordinated by the Community Outreach Committee with the support of the Pastoral Ministries Office, dozens of residents penned personalized letters to children who attend Sandy Hook Elementary School. The letters were collected and mailed to Newtown on January 19th.
"It is very important to let the students in Newtown know that people all over the country are thinking of them and praying for them," stated Jean Harbour, a resident of Eagle's Trace.
As the North Texas native has four children and six grandchildren, the tragedy hit home. "They are innocent children, and I think about the family members of the victims," described Ms. Harbour. "As much as we can from Texas, we need to show them our encouragement and love."
