HOUSTON, TX---"Buffy," "Bingo" & "Boris" might not be household names at Eagle's Trace. But for one day, they and their canine buddies took center stage at the Erickson Living retirement community's Canine Cup on October 29th.
Twenty dogs and their owners, a mix of residents and employees, participated in a friendly competition that featured four categories: Best Dressed, Best Kiss, Best Trick and Best In Show.
Seventy attendees were treated to a celebration of man's best friend.
A three-judge panel scored the contest using the specially-designed 4-Paw Scoring System; the judges were Eagle's Trace residents Ann Foster & Dan Wagner and Stephanie Swedlund, the community's Financial Analyst.
After the dogs showed their best stuff on-stage, the judges' scores were tallied. Event emcee Dawn Dandy, Sales Associate at Eagle's Trace, announced the following winners:
Best In Show: "Andrew," a friendly Shetland Sheep Dog. He is owned by resident Nuel Windrow. Best Trick: "Killer," a lovable Bichon Frise. He is owned by residents Marty & Sandy Connelly. Best Kiss: "Rudy," a Shih Tzu who enjoys Tai Chi. Rudy is owned by resident Betty Frankhouser. Best Dressed: "Sierra" & "Bindi," a pair of adorable Yorkshire terriers. They are owned by residents Eileen & Jerry Bennick.
The Canine Cup earned generous support from the community at large. Sponsors included PetSmart, Live Oak Pet Services and Carter's Pet Depot. A representative of the Houston Humane Society also provided attendees with information about their services and volunteer opportunities.
