Devonshire [an Erickson Senior Living community at PGA National], offers very good benefits,” says team member Sony Dorvall. “In addition, I feel appreciated and supported by both my managers and community members.”

This support is one of many reasons why Erickson Senior Living continues to attract and retain dedicated staff members. A recent study by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans found that “employers whose engagement levels are high offer attractive benefits including paid leave, health insurance, retirement, and health and well-being incentives.”

Devonshire’s comprehensive total rewards go beyond typical employee benefit plans. In addition to offering multiple health care plans and choices, employees receive a full range of support to help build their careers while enjoying an enviable work-life balance. Other competitive benefits include tuition reimbursement, 401K with company match, generous paid time off, online training classes, and a wide range of discount programs.

“Devonshire takes pride in offering team members competitive benefits as well as providing a supportive and collaborative work environment,” says executive director Brad Andrus. “This positive community culture has resulted in the development and promotion of numerous team members into new and exciting roles.”

Sony began serving the Devonshire community in May 2005 as a food runner, working in the kitchens of the community restaurants. His skill in dining services quickly led to a series of promotions, first to food runner and then to server. Sony now works training other servers at Devonshire’s Windsor restaurant.

His 19-year Devonshire career is testament to the positive and encouraging work environment Sony enjoys each day.

“I enjoy very good relationships with my managers,” he says. “They let me know that they are happy with my work. Their support has made me a strong manager with the servers that I now train. One of the things that stands out to me is the excellent training management provides. My managers are very good about bringing in people to train us and keep up our skills.”

In addition to on-the-job training, mentorship, and numerous opportunities for career advancement, Sony finds that one of the best parts about working at an Erickson Senior Living community is working with community members on a daily basis.

“I really enjoy being at work,” he says. “One of the best parts is spending time with the community members. I love to serve them. I do my best to give them a great experience every day. We learn so much about each other in our day-to-day interactions.”

Sony also enjoys his interactions with other Devonshire dining service team members. As a trainer he is responsible for training and helping employees with service and career opportunities.

“For me, a job well done is one where my team and I stay on top of our service, providing a superior dining experience,” he says.  “I work very hard encouraging team members to serve our community well. Life is short, you need to be happy with what you are doing and I am very happy working at Devonshire.”
