Peabody, MA - This fall 44 local students working at Brooksby Village will head to college and for some, continuing on with their college/trade school education with financial help thanks to the over 1900 people who live at Brooksby Village.  Forty four students from the North Shore will receive the Brooksby Village Student Scholarship.

"We have 78 high school seniors graduating this year and 44 are receiving the Brooksby Village Student Scholarship," said John Daly, Staff Development Manager, Brooksby Village.  "We have awarded the Brooksby Village student scholarship to 324 students (including this year's students) since the program started in 2002.  The students become eligible for the Brooksby Village Student Scholarship by completing 1000 hours of work here over a consecutive 2-year period.  We wish them all the best of luck next year."

Nine years ago, Gina (Archibald) Fernandez, received the Brooksby Village Student Scholarship when she graduated Peabody High School. Her brother Justin, who has also been working here at Brooksby Village, will receive his scholarship on Monday night at the Scholarship Award Ceremony.

After Fernandez graduated from Peabody High, she went on to Salem State University and continued to work in Dining Services at Brooksby Village.  Once she graduated from Salem State, she was hired as the Administrative Assistant for Dining Services and then in 2011 she was promoted to Human Resources Coordinator.  In 2012 she was hired as a Sales Associate and in 2013 she was promoted to Sales Manager at Brooksby Village.

"Brooksby Village began for me as a job in high school and thanks to all of the exposure and connections, I was able to graduate from Salem State and get a job right away," said Fernandez.  "I have been able to work in so many different departments here at Brooksby Village and it allowed me to see what I loved doing the most. The bonds I have made with people who both live and work here are un breakable.   I always look back at the years I was a student here and have such wonderful memories.  I look forward to watching my brother receive his scholarship on Monday night."

High school seniors will receive a total of $5,000 over the next four years of College.  The money will be dispersed directly to their school in $625-per-semester increments, for a maximum of eight semesters or four years.  The second option is for college freshman students who meet the scholarship eligibility.  They will receive a total of $5,000 over the next three years of college.  The money will be dispersed to their school in $833 per semester increments for a maximum of six semesters or three years.

The award ceremony is Monday, May 19 at 7pm in the Chapel at McIntosh Clubhouse at Brooksby Village.
