Ann's Choice, an Erickson Senior Living community in Bucks County, Pa., recently revealed its newly renovated Village Clubhouse to the delight of both residents and staff.
Exciting changes were brought to the amenities at Village Clubhouse, including a medical center, three of six campus restaurants, a library, fitness center, salon, and the Employee Health and Well-Being Center. Hallways and common spaces received a facelift as well, with fresh paint and decor in deep teals, greens, and purples to create a warm and inviting environment.
Resident Ronnie Gerster, like her neighbors, is impressed with the new changes. "When we saw the result of the plans, we were very happy!" she says.
Associate Executive Director Christa Segal agrees. "It's brighter and more welcoming," Segal says.
She adds, "We know that socialization, physical fitness, and opportunities to stay engaged and involved support overall well-being, so enhancing amenities for dining, fitness, and gathering was an important factor in this renovation."
New dining venues
Fireside Restaurant, one of the restaurants located in Village Clubhouse, was redesigned to feature new seating and a bar and grill called Embers Tavern.
"We created more open and welcoming seating areas, including those at the new Embers Tavern," says Segal.
Living in Village Clubhouse, Ronnie frequently dines at Fireside Restaurant and has become a big fan of Embers Tavern.
"It's quiet and more subdued, with a lower ceiling. There's not as much traffic as Fireside. I enjoy it. And Fireside has become much more popular," she says, adding that the banquets and seating areas create a more intimate atmosphere compared to the previous large, open design.
Health and well-being
A new group fitness room was another welcome addition to Village Clubhouse.
"We converted an old office space into a group exercise room with a wall of mirrors and a balance bar," says Segal. "This allows us to add a lot more group fitness classes, including men's fitness and chair yoga, both of which are really popular. We have some fabulous instructors."
"The new group fitness room is definitely being used," Ronnie adds.
At the medical center, new exam tables, furniture, and a lower front desk were added for greater accessibility.
Just as residents benefit from convenient health care at the medical center, staff members can visit the Employee Health and Well-Being Center for flu shots, COVID vaccines, blood work, well-being visits, and sick visits (for employees 18 and over). During the recent renovations, the wellness center was moved down the hall to a larger dedicated space.
Collaborative process
Additional gathering areas were also created to offer more opportunities for residents to socialize and participate in group activities, like club meetings and card games.
"We're always finding space to support the different activities happening on campus," says Segal. "Residents have 130 clubs and activities to choose from, just steps from their front doors."
From these gathering areas to the new decor, members of the Resident Advisory Council were kept up-to-date on all phases of the project.
"We sat with management, the executive director, and the associate executive director. We reviewed the plans and gave our input," says Ronnie, Resident Advisory Council chair. "The plans were very satisfactory."
Ronnie was most involved with the renovations of the campus library, where she volunteers.
"We wanted to enlarge the space for library books. We accomplished that goal, and it looks really nice," she says.
Looking ahead
Residents and staff alike are excited to keep the ball rolling--well into 2026 and beyond.
"This is just the first clubhouse to receive renovations of this level," says Segal. "There is a lot more on the horizon for Ann's Choice."
Renovations at Keystone Clubhouse will be completed this fall, and changes are slated to begin at Liberty Commons Clubhouse in 2026.
"Our long-range plans really speak volumes," Segal says. "We look at what's important to our prospective residents while continuing to serve and protect the investment of our current residents."
She adds, "We want to provide as many amenities and resources as possible to support their active, vibrant lifestyles--now and in the future."
