Ann's Choice Happy Hour

Ann's Choice, an Erickson Senior Living-managed community in Buck's County, Pa., offers seniors more than a wonderful place to live; it's a wonderful place to play. Community members find that freedom from the obligations of homeownership, like lawn care, cleaning gutters, and performing routine maintenance—means freedom to devote their time to the hobbies and activities that bring them joy. They can socialize, take classes, exercise, attend a performance, or try a new activity, all of which keep community members active, engaged, and healthy.

Enjoying an active lifestyle

Such was the case for Bob and Lynn Swan, who moved to Ann’s Choice in July 2005. The couple had lived in Warminster, Pa., since 1970 and were among the early arrivals.

“When construction started, we attended a luncheon to learn about the community,” recalls Bob. “We were in our mid-60s and decided that we wanted to enjoy the active lifestyle while we were younger. With my engineering background, I could see that the construction was being done right. Moving was a no-brainer.”

“The house was too big after our three kids moved out,” Lynn adds. “Only one of our sons lived close by, and he had small children at the time. We didn’t feel it was fair to put the burden on him if we needed help. It made sense to sell and move. We’ve never regretted it.”

Lynn and Bob chose a lovely second floor apartment and made friends quickly. They continued working in their sales and marketing company, which had offices in four states, and retired in 2009.

“We’ve been happily married for 63 years,” she says, “worked together for most of that time, and raised a wonderful family. We’re extremely fortunate in so many ways.”

Pursuing their passions

The freedom they found at Ann’s Choice has enabled the couple to continue pursuing lifelong passions. They devote substantial time to the Protestant Fellowship Council, which Bob currently chairs.

“The Council arranges religious services and undertakes philanthropic work,” says Bob. “It’s extremely rewarding.”

He was a founding member of the genealogy club, the coin collecting club, and served as president of the model railroad club. Lynn helped establish Liberty Bell Red Hat Club; in addition to their social activities, members make and sell note cards to support the Ann’s Choice Scholars and Benevolent Care Funds.

“To date, we’ve raised more than $13,000 for these worthy causes,” she says. The Swans, longtime participants with the humanitarian organization, Samaritans’ Purse, found ready assistance on campus.

“We were preparing gift boxes for children, and members of the Jewish and Catholic communities here asked if they could assist,” says Lynn. “It’s gratifying to see every faith tradition involved in such a wonderful charity.”

Getting out and about

Their involvement in a variety of organizations extends beyond the campus. They are proud members of the Hatboro Baptist Church, the Masons, the Shriners, and the Boy Scouts; both of their sons and two grandsons are Eagle Scouts. Bob and Lynn also are past Patron and Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

“You just cannot run out of things to do, on and off campus,” says Lynn. “And without having to care for a house, you’re really free to focus on doing what you love.”

No changing light bulbs

Executive Director Chris Donati agrees. “Living at Ann’s Choice enables you to make the most of your retirement. With more than 150 clubs covering every conceivable interest, you can get involved in current and new hobbies while making wonderful friends. Best of all, we handle all of the large and small tasks associated with owning a house—from changing a light bulb to changing major appliances—so our residents can focus on enjoying themselves. The days of mowing the lawn and shoveling snow are over.”

Donati also points to the peace of mind that comes with having a maintenance team on site and on call.

“Community members don’t spend time searching for a reputable repair person or waiting for deliveries. They pick up the phone, and the work is done by people they know and trust.”

Consider being part of a vibrant senior living community like Ann’s Choice. Beautiful walking paths, gardens, resort-style amenities, an on-site medical center staffed by full-time medical professionals, and new friends await. Request a brochure or a visit now!
