This commitment and dedication have been seen daily at Windsor Run, an Erickson Living-managed community in Matthews, N.C., as staff work tirelessly to serve and protect every community member.
"I am thankful for the care and concern about the health and safety of all residents at Windsor Run," says Anne Taber. "I feel well cared for and appreciate daily deliveries, meals, mail, and cheerful hellos from staff. I feel as secure and safe as anyone can at this time. I am so thankful that I chose to move here when I did."
Staying in touch
Most important, throughout the pandemic, Windsor Run staff and management have remained in constant communication with all residents. Daily updates and information can be found on the My Erickson app and through the use of bulletin boards, personal flyers, and communitywide informational voice messages from Executive Director George Comfort.
"The communications from George Comfort to the residents have been outstanding," says community member Shila Baer. "He has kept us up to date on everything on a timely basis and has been very proactive. The entire staff at Windsor Run has been amazing!"
Neighbor Gretchen Hazen agrees.
"Every staff member is doing a fantastic job, both in their usual roles and in activities they don't normally do," she says. "They remain cheerful and helpful, just as they always are, I can't praise them enough. George is doing an excellent job of keeping us informed, responding to questions, and making it so we need not worry about a thing."
In addition, the resident life team have created and distributed a weekly newsletter, Community Connections, filled with important updates, comics, suggested activities to keep residents entertained and inspirational quotes.
"I look forward to the weekly Community Connections," says Nicky Driscoll. "I appreciate the suggestions to keep body and mind active but most of all the funnies to keep the spirit up and smiling."
Windsor Run staff has kept residents abreast on communitywide precautionary measures. One of the first programs initiated was the in-home dining program. Rather than enjoying meals at one of Windsor Run's campus restaurants, staff members have been personally delivering all meals to residents in their homes.
"We were delighted with our dining experience before the current coronavirus crisis and now enjoy our delicious delivered meals," says Richard Baer. "The meals excel in high quality, diversity of menu options, and excellent service."
Chair of the resident dining services committee Kathryne Sanders agrees.
"In talking with other residents, the consensus is that the overall quality, variety, and logistics of the meal delivery is excellent," says Kathryne. "We're all getting fed well and the staff is cheerful."
Windsor Run Executive Chef Patrick Yeager has also provided frequent updates regarding the food selection process and delivery.
"Kudos to the entire dining services team," adds Nicky. "The meals are excellent, nutritious, plentiful, and delivered with a smile. They deserve ten stars."
At your service
Windsor Run, like all Erickson Living-managed communities, launched a concierge program to facilitate the doorstep delivery of newspapers, packages, and other important items by staff members. This program has helped to minimize outside visitors, further keeping residents safe and healthy.
"My wife Eileen and I repeatedly tell our friends and relatives that we feel very well protected by Windsor Run," says Buck Gatewood.
As an added enhancement to the concierge program, the Windsor Run community implemented an essential items delivery service, providing residents with the opportunity to request travel-size/single-serve essential items, including soap, laundry detergent, coffee, and tea from the front desk. These items are provided free of charge, within 48-hours.
On a recent, record-breaking hot day, staff members delivered a surprise ice cream treat to community members.
"I really enjoyed the surprise delivery of the ice cream treat," says Peggy Desclos. "It is amazing how something so small can make such a difference."
With health, wellness, dining, and the distribution of necessities under control, Windsor Run staff have continued to look for creative ways for community members to entertain themselves from the comfort of their homes.
All Windsor Run departments work carefully to provide information and, in many cases, entertainment options to community members. Fitness Coordinator Timothy Dean helps keep residents physically fit by posting at-home workout videos on the My Erickson app.
And in an expression of communitywide spirit, each day at 4:00 p.m., residents open their back doors, go onto their porch or open a window, and sing "God Bless America" together.
"I admire and appreciate all that George and the staff are doing to protect our 'island,'" says John Gray. "When I think of all the logistical, communications, staffing, and other management decisions that have been made in totally new, uncertain, and constantly changing circumstances, I am in awe. I applaud the commitment to all of us and the Erickson mission."
