Ready Set School!: Wind Crest Supports Inter-Faith Community Services Project for Colorado Cares Day

July 31, 2012

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO---The upcoming school year is right around the corner, which means the start of school supply shopping season.  However, for less fortunate families, it can be a challenge to prepare their children for class.
Beginning on July 9th, residents and employees of Wind Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community, collected an assortment of supplies including pencils, highlighters, pocket folders and new backpacks.
It was all part of a drive for the 14th Annual Colorado Cares Day, the day of service to strengthen communities in honor of Colorado's statehood in 1876.
The project culminated on Saturday, July 28th when a contingent from Wind Crest drove an entire shuttle bus filled with the collected items to the Interfaith Community Services in Englewood as part of the organization's Ready Set School! campaign.
Donations were accepted at the retirement community's medical center.  Dr. Barbara Morris, Medical Director at Wind Crest, is a commissioner for Serve Colorado, the Governor's Commission on Community Service.  Additionally, the Wind Crest Treasure Chest contributed $150 to the effort.
Frances Blizard, a resident of Wind Crest, is a long-time volunteer and former board president for Inter-Faith Community Services.
"I am proud of the out-pouring of support from our community to this Colorado Cares Day project," stated Mrs. Blizard.  "We are anxious to see young children receive a good school experience and succeed, and knowing that Inter-Faith Community Services will keep these school supplies to help students in the surrounding area is a true positive."
