Brunch Kicks-Off Wind Crest Student Scholarship Drive

February 10, 2012

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO---Wind Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community in Highlands Ranch, held its 2nd Annual Student Scholarship Fundraising Kickoff Brunch on February 4th.
Wind Crest employs 120 local students for its Dining Services Department.  In the 2010-11 academic year, sixteen students who attended high schools in Douglas, Jefferson and Arapahoe Counties earned scholarships for their four-year collegiate careers.  The value of these awards is $1,000 per year for a four-year total of $4,000.
The event brings together the scholars, their families and residents of Wind Crest.  "The brunch is the start of our fundraising for the scholarship program," described Carlie Thomas, staff development manager at Wind Crest.  "We take great pride in the success of our student scholars, and we are grateful for the generous contributions from our residents, staff and community partners."
The fundraising goal for 2012 is $84,000 in order to award up to twenty-one collegiate scholarships.
The program creates strong connections, says Wind Crest resident Pauline Neff.
"The residents truly get to know the students, especially their interests and career plans," stated Mrs. Neff.  "They've gone on to major in architecture, education and culinary arts.  We contribute because these students are the future of our nation."
The brunch offers bragging rights, too.  "We have the opportunity to meet their parents and thank them for raising such wonderful young men and women," described Mrs. Neff.
