Talllgrass Creek Residents Award $27,000 in Scholarships to Student Employees

June 4, 2014

OVERLAND PARK, KS (June 4, 2014) -- Through the generous donations by Tallgrass Creek residents, a total of $27,000 in scholarships today was awarded to seven student employees.  The money was raised by Tallgrass Creek residents during the past two months to show their appreciation of the students' work and to help assist them financially in their post-secondary education.
The student scholarship recipients are:
Miranda Hall-Aquintania - Blue Valley North High School (will be attending Bowdoin College)
Christian Petty - Blue Valley Northwest High School (will be attending the University of Kansas)
Conner Richenburg - Blue Valley West High School (will be attending Kansas State University)
Kip Pierce - Kansas City Christian High School (will be attending John Brown University)
Chris Vega - Blue Valley West high School (will be attending Johnson County Community College)
Kayla Vermulm - Olathe Northwest High School  (will be attending Johnson County Community College)
Cameron Minter - Blue Valley Northwest High School (will be attending Emporia State University)
These students work for at least two years during which time they are trained, mentored, and cared for by Tallgrass Creek residents who become surrogate grandparents to them.
Not only do students receive scholarships at the end of their tenure at Tallgrass Creek, but residents build relationships with them, ask them about school, and encourage them to keep working hard.
Residents are good role models for the young adults and serve as examples for what a good education can do for one's life.
