OVERLAND PARK, KS (December 12, 2016) -- The back room at Perkins restaurant in Lenexa, Kansas, is a rollickin' place to be on the third Tuesday morning of each month. That's when Tallgrass Creek's Men's Only Breakfast group, better known as the M.O.B, shows up to gab, laugh, and enjoy some guys-only time over eggs and coffee. The group leaves Tallgrass Creek about 8:15 a.m. and avoids rush hour traffic traveling in style on the community's comfortable shuttle.
Resident Don Grady organized the M.O.B. in 2008 soon after he and wife Barb moved from nearby Leawood to Tallgrass Creek. About 20 men attend the monthly breakfast gatherings, which Don still coordinates today.
"It's quite a group of guys," says Don. "Most of us don't miss because it's a bit rowdy and fun and there is always lots of conversation."
Perkins dining room server Sarah Haller serves the group every month and loves seeing the Tallgrass Creek shuttle pull up at the restaurant's front door.
"These guys are a blast," laughs Haller. "It's one of those groups you wish came in more. They're always polite but love to joke around and definitely have a good time together."
Many residents in the group hail from Missouri, so there is usually lively banter about differences between Kansas and Missouri sports, politics, and government.
"We also have a lot of guys who served in the military when they were younger," says Don. "It's something we have in common, and it's fun to reminisce and share experiences from those days."
Ron Browne, a newcomer to the group, moved last year to Meadowlark Terrace, Tallgrass Creek's newest residence building, and seldom misses one of the M.O.B.'s gatherings.
