Tallgrass Creek Celebrates Student Scholars Class of 2019

12 student employees receive college scholarships thanks to resident contributions

Overland Park, Kans. – July 9, 2019 – Tallgrass Creek, a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living, recently awarded 12 of its student employees with four-year college scholarships to help offset academic tuition expenses at their college or university.

The total amount raised this year was more than $54,000, funded primarily through resident contributions from a total of 223 households. The community's Treasure Chest store contributed more than $1,500, thanks to the support of resident patrons.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the students employed in the Dining Services department must work a minimum of 1,000 hours, build positive relationships with residents and maintain a strong work record while employed at the community.

Tallgrass Creek issued its first scholarship in 2009. Since then, the community has contributed more than $358,500 to help 54 students advance their collegiate careers, plus the 12 scholars who are part of the Class of 2019.

"We are grateful to each of our residents who made a donation to the Scholars' Fund, without whom we would not be able to offer this opportunity to the student employees who work so hard for this community," said Jean Landreville, Executive Director.

As students prepare to take on college, one Tallgrass Creek resident shared a few words of appreciation: "We have really enjoyed all of you. We appreciate your smiles, your attitude and your hard work ethic. Good luck!"

While another resident offered this sage advice: "Pick something you enjoy doing, learn as much as you can about it, and then give it your all."
