The Arts Club is excited about their first art show. The club has participated in the arts and crafts shows in the past, but this event will showcase just the work of Tallgrass painters and photographers. Many residents are in and out of the Arts and Crafts room and are familiar with much of the work. In fact, a recent visitor said she can now identify paintings by the different styles. But there may be older works and some surprises. Alan and Georgia Oehrle have been working very hard to put the show together. Alan has made the display panels, as well as frames and easels for mini paintings which will be available for purchase. All proceeds from these little gems will go to the Benevolent Care Fund, as will commissions from sales of any other paintings.
Heart of America Sings:
The Chorale will be celebrating Kansas' 150th anniversary with many of their numbers including an arrangement of "Home on the Range" by Mark Hayes, which includes a harmonica and piano accompaniment. The audience will enjoy the harmonica talents of local artist Aaron Mitchum. The group will also be singing some Irving Berlin arrangements of familiar tunes that will bring back memories of American love songs. And, as tradition seems to be in the making, there will be a multimedia visual presentation celebrating Kansas.
Evening of Poetry & Music:
There will be an Evening of Poetry and Music performed by Tallgrass residents. This unique and thoughtful program was well received last year when it was organized by Dorothy Sollenberger. It is reminiscent of a salon in the 1800's, when guests were invited to the drawing room of a home for an evening of music and verse.
