A Tuesday, July 10, late morning Homerun Derby by residents of Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park, KS, to celebrate their health and wellness and to cheer the Major League Baseball All-Star Game being held later that night at The "K" (Kauffman Stadium) in Kansas City, Missouri.
Scores of retirees will take their best swings at an assortment of curveballs, sliders and knuckleballs pitched to them softball-style. The male and female who hits the ball the farthest will win baseball-themed prizes. Batters and cheering spectators will wear the attire of their favorite baseball teams, with the uniform of choice being that of their beloved Kansas City Royals.
Tuesday, July 10, from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. on the field behind the Clubhouse at Tallgrass Creek, 13800 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS.
Baseball is great for hand and eye coordination. As people swing the bat their balance and flexibility are put to the test. Participants will not run the bases due to the summer heat. They will, however, share their stories of baseball lore and their personal "Field of Dreams" experiences.
All participants and spectators will be available for interviews. The Homerun Derby should lend itself to interesting and, perhaps, surprising visuals.
