Incredibly, Tallgrass Creek Resident Virginia Oberheide Catalogs 2,000 Books at Campus' Library
OVERLAND PARK, KS (January 16, 2012) - Incredibly, a total of 2,000 library books in the fiction, mystery, history, religion, poetry, and biography sections (not paperback or medical books) have been entered by author and title into a computer system on the desk in the Tallgrass Creek retirement community library in Overland Park, KS. And  one person has been responsible for this.
It has taken resident Virginia Oberheide hundreds of hours to set up this system that saves residents lots of time if they are looking for a particular author, title or subject. The number of books entered is rumored metaphorically around campus to be as tall as the Empire State Building and taller than the Taj Mahal. Oberheide spent many late nights getting this system off the ground.
Detailed instructions for using the system are on the table beside the computer and on-site help is being considered. There is a "tag" for each book to indicate the section where residents can locate the book in the library. Access from each resident's  home computer can be found at:
The Tallgrass Creek library committee, chaired by Ellen Shurtleff, routinely promotes its reading material, especially publications in the magazine rack that constantly change, to residents.  Donations of classic books and large print books are always welcome. There is a growing collection of DVDs and audio material at the library.
