May 19, 2015

SILVER SPRING, MD—Riderwood's skilled nursing neighborhood in Arbor Ridge earned a deficiency-free survey from state regulators.   Conducted by the Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene's Office of Health Care Quality, the licensing survey occurred May 6-8 on the campus of the Erickson Living retirement community. The news comes on the heels of Riderwood receiving the highest overall rating of five stars in the seventh annual Best Nursing Homes edition of U.S. News & World Report published in March.  That ranking is based on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that sets and enforces standards for nursing homes. The extended care neighborhood of Riderwood offers skilled nursing, assisted living, respite care, post-acute rehabilitation and memory-care services and has received a 5-star rating in the overall category for seven consecutive years.   The national average for deficiencies in a licensing survey is 6.8; the average in Maryland is 11.2.  The deficiency-free survey tells a story beyond the numbers, according to Lori Hamilton, LNHA, Director of Extended Care at Riderwood. "Our team takes great pride in training, attending to areas of improvement and consistently keeping a finger on the pulse of our residents and their families," stated Ms. Hamilton.  "We collaborate daily with our medical center professionals led by Dr. Eugenio Machado.  The result is that we are able to meet the unique health care needs of our residents and provide assurance to family members that their loved ones are in good hands at Riderwood." Among the team of four hundred professionals at Arbor Ridge are six physicians, two nurse practitioners and one mental health practitioner.  About Riderwood:  Riderwood is one of eighteen continuing care retirement communities managed by Erickson Living.  Located in Silver Spring, Maryland, the scenic 120-acre campus is home to more than 2,500 residents.  Riderwood is the ideal greater Washington, D.C. retirement destination offering a true sense of community, convenience beyond compare and a sensible financial structure.
