Riderwood Residents to Celebrate Older Americans Month With Active Aging Events

May 29, 2013

SILVER SPRING, MD---When President Carter designated May as "Older Americans Month" in 1980, he had no idea that seniors would celebrate the occasion like the residents of Riderwood retirement community will do on Friday morning, May 31st.
They'll hit home runs, shoot hoops with players from the University of Maryland women's college basketball team and run with one of the presidential mascots of the Washington Nationals.
The fun is part of the Erickson Living retirement's community month-long commemoration of Older Americans Month, a Field Day event that highlights health and wellness activities.
Other activities will include a fitness trivia, putting contest and soccer.
As education is an important component of active aging, the Maryland Department of Aging and the Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services will join the Resident Life Department of Riderwood in providing health and wellness tips.
