October 26, 2012

SILVER SPRING, MD (2012) - Riderwood retirement community resident Logan Schutz is the 2012 recipient of the University of Maryland Athletic Department's Lifetime Service Award. The honor was conferred at an Athletic Department banquet.
As former director of alumni affairs, Schutz worked closely with the Athletic Department, accompanying the football and basketball teams to games away from Maryland and organizing social events for alumni and traveling Terrapin Club members who support the Athletic Department with contributions.
Schutz has served as a member of the Terrapin Club Policy Committee, president of the M Club, whose members are varsity letter winners, and has provided annual awards to the outstanding male and female track hurdlers.
The university's football practice fields and the first tee on the University golf course are named in his honor, in recognition of charitable gifts he has donated to the Athletic Department.
He is an emeritus member of the university's Alumni Association Board of Governors.
Last December, Schutz was awarded the State of Maryland Governor's Citation in recognition of his leadership and commitment to the university.
Schutz and his wife Louise have been Riderwood residents since August, 2000. He has been actively involved in community affairs as chairman of the former Travel Club, chairman of the Resident Advisory Council, and member of the Dining Services Committee for six years. He currently serves on the Philanthropy Committee.
