Riderwood Resident Bob Sprinkle Recalls Encounters with Margaret Thatcher

April 15, 2013

SILVER SPRING, MD--As the world mourns the loss of Margaret Thatcher, the longest serving Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the twentieth century and only woman to have held the office, people of all walks of life are offering their remembrances of the "Iron Lady."
Include Bob Sprinkle, a resident of Riderwood retirement community in Silver Spring, MD, in that group.  Mr. Sprinkle had three encounters with Prime Minister Thatcher during his professional career.
The former Chief Executive Officer of the Association for International Practical Training met Prime Minister Thatcher in March, 1996 during a commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of Winston Churchill's "Iron Curtain Speech" in Westminster College in Missouri.
In November, 1984, Mr. Sprinkle enjoyed a rare experience: being seated in the "Strangers' Gallery" of the British House of Commons, during which Mrs. Thatcher answered the Questions to the Prime Minister.
In his role with the President's International Youth Exchange Initiative, Mr. Sprinkle received a letter of endorsement for the program signed by Prime Minister Thatcher.
Details of his experiences can be viewed here:  On April 11th, Mr. Sprinkle was interviewed by Riderwood TV, the in-house television station of the Silver Spring-based Erickson Living retirement community.
The funeral of Margaret Thatcher is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17th.
