Public is Invited to Attend a Free June 26 Digital World Tech Expo at Riderwood

SILVER SPRING, MD (May 9, 2012) - The public is invited to attend a free June 26 Digital World Tech Expo at Riderwood retirement community, 3140 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring. The tech expo is the first of its kind in the region and will be held from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Performance Hall on the Riderwood campus.
The tech expo will help the public learn to use technology to stay connected with family, track personal finances and health care information and be entertained. Attendees will interact with resident presenters to learn how to apply technology in areas of electronic health records, digital photography, audiology, genealogy, and video gaming. Special Facebook, Email, Skype and iPad workshops will be held. Seminars will be offered. Refreshments will be served.
The Pew Research Center reports social networking among internet users ages 50 and older nearly doubled - from 22 percent in April 2009 to 42 percent in May 2010. The Nielsen Company reports the number of people in this age group actively using the internet has increased by more than 55 percent to 17.7 million users last year.
Riderwood, which has nearly 3,000 residents, is the nation's largest continuing care retirement community. It sits on 120 acres that stretch across Prince George's and Montgomery Counties.
