Lesley Easton, a Sculptor and Payroll Worker, Will Celebrate Her 22nd Birthday on February 29th in Silver Spring, MD, at Her Riderwood Retirement Community Apartment Home

January 4, 2012

SILVER SPRING, MD (January 4, 2012) - Lesley Easton is looking forward to celebrating her 22nd birthday on February 29th at her apartment home at Riderwood retirement community in Silver Spring.  And when she does, she will do it surrounded by her many friends, some of  whom are four times her age.
Easton, who still works a payroll job for the ESOL Department of Montgomery County Public Schools, was born on February 29, 1924 in Shrewsbury, PA. She is a proud Leap Year Baby and she is, perhaps, as adventurous in life as any other 22 year-old.
She is a Terra Cotta sculptor and works weekly in the Riderwood Crafts Studio. She just finished sculpting a 16-inch by 6-inch reclining nude of a wife that was requested by the wife's newlywed husband.  Her apartment home is filled with her Asian-themed sculptures and about 20 works of assorted subject matter, including dogs and horses.
Easton moved from Bethesda to Riderwood six years ago with her late husband, Ralph, who she met on a double date in Washington, D.C. They married in 1942 in Texas where Ralph was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. He served in WWII as a Master Sergeant in China, Burma and India.
She and Ralph were married 66 years. They had four children and five grandchildren.
"I had a fabulous life with my husband," she said. "He was the most handsome, wonderful husband I could ever want. If every 22 year-old woman could grab onto someone like that then they would be very fortunate - just as I have been."
Easton attended the 70th reunion of her Forest Park High School (Baltimore, MD)  class - and, naturally, she was the youngest person present. "I'm glad I was born in my generation," she said. "Life is more complicated today than when I grew up."
What will she do for her 22nd birthday celebration on February 29th?
"I'll be celebrating  with a dry martini, " she said with a smile, adding the martini will be good, especially since she is old enough to drink.
