Parkville, Maryland—Bolstered by an impressive offensive performance and solid defense, the Good Guys, the resident softball team at the Parkville-based retirement community, earned a pair of victories to capture the Annual Erickson Living Softball Tournament.
It was their sixth consecutive championship. The Good Guys also won the tournament in 2011-2012 and 2014 through 2017.
The event, held in Catonsville at Charlestown retirement community on June 6, matched residents from Oak Crest, Charlestown, Riderwood (Silver Spring) and Greenspring (northern Virginia) in a two-round format.
In the opening game, the Good Guys got the bats going early to defeat Greenspring 25-12.
In a competitive championship game, Oak Crest defeated Charlestown 11-3.
"I'd like to thank the players and coaches on all the teams that participated for terrific sportsmanship and play during this year's tournament," said Walt Stawinski, who served as team manager and played in the games. "I'm especially proud of the Oak Crest Good Guys, the fitness center staff and all of our fans. The team played very well in all aspects of the game, and the great base-running was the icing on the cake!"
The Good Guys received vocal, enthusiastic support from two bus-loads of residents from Oak Crest who made the trip to Charlestown.
