GLEN MILLS, PA - Some high-energy Maris Grove residents and staff members laced up their sneakers to support the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware during the agency's 25th Anniversary Run 4 the House 5K Run/Walk.
Maris Grove resident Winnie Meyer, who volunteers each week at the house organized a group of walkers and donors from the Maris Grove community. A total of 20 participants made up "Winnie's Winners!"
In addition to walking, Mrs. Meyer helped secure donations in the amount of $1,425 for Ronald McDonald House which will assist them with their efforts.
Mrs. Meyer, who is considered a "Family Person" for Ronald McDonald House serves as a family liaison at the facility and helps familiarize guests about the house, serves meals and is also there to listen to the family members who sometimes just want to talk.
"I think it's important to give back to a community and I enjoy doing it," Mrs. Meyer said. "I see what some of these children and their families are going through and want to help however I can."
Mrs. Meyer has been a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware for nine years now and is also active at Maris Grove, serving as chairperson for various fund raisers. She is also on the shuffleboard committee.
Of the approximate 1,000 walkers and runners Maris Grove residents Barbara Wise and Bob Welsh received a prize from Ronald McDonald House for the 75-years-old and over age group.
