Maris Grove Residents Collect Warm Linens For Stray Cats and Dogs in Area Shelters

March 24, 2014

GLEN MILLS, PA - The Maris Grove Resident Outreach Committee is a group of dedicated, caring community residents who work to assist those who live inside and outside of Maris Grove. The residents in this committee regularly collect food, funds and raise awareness on a variety of issue for the common good.
Their latest endeavor involved lending a little support for those who don't have a voice, but need some tender loving care nonetheless. For the third year in a row, the Outreach Committee completed a collection drive of lightly used blankets, towels and sheets for homeless animals at the Faithful Friends Animal Society in Wilmington, DE and the Delaware County SPCA in Media.
For one week the Outreach Committee encouraged Maris Grove residents to drop off the items at locations in the community's clubhouses for the purposes of providing dogs and cats with warm, clean bedding.
"It is so important that someone care for these animals and that we as members of a community do what we can to help the local animals," said Gerri Eisenstein, a Maris Grove resident and member of the Outreach Committee. "We are delighted to have such a positive outpouring of support to help the dogs and cats who need some tender-loving care."
Maris Grove Executive Director Maureen Heckler said, "I commend the Outreach Committee for all the hard work that they continually do to try and improve the lives of the people, and animals, of this region. Whether it is a food collection, providing funding for schools or assisting homeless dogs and cats, this group of compassionate residents always find a way to make a difference."
Earlier this month, the Outreach Committee gave a $400 donation to Dr. John Alston, the founder and artistic director of the Chester Children's Chorus and for the past several years the Resident Outreach Group has sold "Lucinda Pins" at Maris Grove to members of the community to raise money for various fundraising projects. "Lucinda Pins" are pieces of jewelry used for fundraising efforts by organizations that were created by Lucinda Yates, a one-time homeless mother.
The residents have also successfully raised money for the Domestic Violence Center for Chester County and Mother's Home! a pregnant women's shelter in Darby.
