Local food trucks bring flavor and fun to Boston

May 29, 2014

Choosing the proper foods for the diet is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle for seniors, and for those living near large cities, there are plenty of local food trucks that provide healthy and delicious options for people to choose from. Older adults living in Massachusetts retirement communities have the opportunity to venture to the state's capital and experience some of the finest - and award-winning - trucks around.

USA Today recently named Boston as one of the top 10 food truck cities this summer, as it boasts a delicious variety of meals on wheels for citizens. Ranging from international cuisine to creative takes on grilled cheese, there are a number of well-known and brand new trucks to watch out for in the coming months.

Nutella truck treks to Beantown
As part of the company's #spreadthehappy truck tour, Nutella will be visiting 16 cities across the U.S. this summer. Seniors with a sweet tooth can try one of the truck's signature waffles that are coated with the delectable hazelnut spread, or they can participate in a number of Nutella-themed games taking place in the surrounding area. Older adults should act fast, however, as the truck is only in town until June 2.

The Cod Squad crab sandwich is a must
It's no surprise that the city well-known for its signature seafood offerings boasts one of the greatest underwater-themed food trucks around. Specials change on a daily basis, but The Cod Squad always offers its shrimp cocktail and crab sandwiches - both of which are ideal options for the crustacean-loving eater. According to the mobile restaurant's Facebook page, it travels between Cambridge and Boston during the week, revealing its daily location to its followers via social media. Its founder, Keith "The Captain" Marden, founded Captain Marden's Seafoods, the parent company to the food truck, in 1945, and has been providing high-quality seafood options to consumers ever since.

Taste The Taco Truck
The Taco Truck is one of the city's most well-known mobile food sites. This restaurant offers a wide selection of Mexican dishes, including tacos, quesadillas and carnitas. The Taco Truck is the ideal choice for seniors who are looking to watch their figures, as items are made from local and organic ingredients. The company places a great deal of emphasis on remaining environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly in its operations, so seniors dining on these dishes can feel good about themselves, both mentally and physically.
