Linden Ponds Residents Stay In Shape All Year Round in Fitness Center

January 14, 2020

Hingham, MA - It's a New Year and many people who live and work at Linden Ponds, a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living, in Hingham, MA, stay healthy by working out in the Linden Ponds state-of-the-art Fitness Center.

Linden Ponds resident Ed Petcavage competes in the Quincy Senior Olympics every year along with many other Linden Ponds residents. To be ready for the Olympics year after year, he trains in the Linden Ponds Fitness Center all year round.

"Since moving to Linden Ponds and joining the fitness center I have experienced substantial physical health improvement," said Petcavage. "The fitness staff helps me with my stretching, strength training, and treadmill training.  I have developed a three hour per week program that I do here at Linden Ponds and because of that, I am always very ready every year to compete in the Quincy Senior Olympics."

Mary Whidden, Linden Ponds Fitness Manager, works with Ed and many other residents at Linden Ponds all year round.  She shares 5 Fitness Tips to kick off the New Year.

Move Your Body

Physical activity, specifically, aerobic activity (walking, swimming, fitness classes) is the number one contributor to longevity, adding extra years to your life. Regular aerobic exercise is also good for your mind, mood, and memory.*

Eat Healthier

Eating healthy is as important as exercising. What you put in your body fuels your day and helps to keep your mind sharp.

Improve Your Balance

This year, empower yourself to improve your balance and help prevent falling. Exercises that strengthen your muscles are a great first step.

Boost Your Brain

Mental health is an important aspect of healthy living. The more you use your mind, the more the brain is stimulated!

Socializing also gives the brain a boost, so consider joining one of the over 100 resident-run clubs and here at Linden Ponds

Get a Good Night's Sleep

The foundation to good health is getting the recommended amount of sleep each night.
