Watched Tara Lipinski win the Gold Medal in Women's Figure Skating
Hingham, MA -In 1998 when Lo Steele and her husband Guy visited the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan they never for a minute worried about security issues.  The Steele's, who live at Linden Ponds in Hingham,  even brought their 14 year old grandson.  Now, 16 years later they look back on their trip with fond memories, including watching Prince Albert of Monaco compete in the Luge event.
"We were able to watch in person the Ski Jump, the Luge, and we watched Tara Lipinski win the Gold in women's figure skating," said Steele.  "We had an amazing experience and never once worried about security.  Times certainly have changed."
The Steele' were guests of the Ito Family.  Professor Masayuki Ito is friends with the Steele's and invited them to be his guests for the Olympic Games.  They  had many memorable experiences including watching Prince Albert of Monaco compete in the Luge event and attending the Closing Ceremonies.
"Guy and I are huge fans of figure skating," said Steele.  "We have been to many figure skating events in Boston and have also watched Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan perform.  To be there in person to watch then 15 year old Tara Lipinksi win Olympic Gold was unforgettable."
They also had a chance encounter with the Emperor and Empress of Japan,  Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.
"One of the most exciting moments was watching the Ski Jump event," said Steele.  "Japan was expected to the win the Gold and they did.  To be there in person and watch the discipline of the Japanese celebrating in person is something I will never forget."
