Highland Springs Wears Red in Support of Troops

May 25, 2012

DALLAS, TX---As Memorial Day weekend approached, residents and employees of Highland Springs demonstrated their support for service men and women in the military by participating in a Red Shirt Friday.
The tradition is carried forth at the Erickson Living retirement community by the Men's Breakfast Group.  The bi-weekly fellowship event features guest speakers and time to discuss the issues of the day.
Herb Hoxie, a resident of Highland Springs, is the leader of the Men's Breakfast.  The fact that nearly two hundred veterans reside at the campus is not lost on the group's organizers.
"As many of us served overseas, we recognize the enormous sacrifices made by service men and women and their families," described Mr. Hoxie.  "They keep our nation safe and fight for our freedom in harm's way so wearing red is one small way in which to express our appreciation."
The mission of is to show national support for service men and women.  According to its website, "we will not forget them and will do this by wearing red on every Friday."
