Highland Springs Celebrates First Place Rangers with Goodwill Ambassador

May 4, 2012

Joe Macko delights residents with insider's view of professional baseball during "Rally for the Rangers"

DALLAS, TX---Just like Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, there was a packed house at Highland Springs to cheer on the hometown team.
Donned in their red and blue, residents and employees of the Erickson Living retirement community in North Dallas welcomed Joe Macko, Goodwill Ambassador for the Texas Rangers, to a "Rally for the Rangers" party on May 1st.
In professional baseball for 64 years, Mr. Macko has a lifetime batting average of .272 with 306 home runs.  He served as business manager for the Rangers upon their arrival to Texas in 1972 and became equipment manager from 1973 through 2001.
Mr. Macko shared stories from his career in baseball and brought Rangers gear for the diehard fans in attendance.
"With our two-time defending American League champions in first place in the A.L. West, it's a great to celebrate their success," stated Barbara Blachly, community resources manager at Highland Springs.  "Mr. Macko was wonderfully gracious with his time, and our residents enjoyed his insider's view of professional baseball."
During last October's World Series run, the residents of Highland Springs debuted The Wash Dance, in honor of the unique moves of Rangers skipper Ron Washington.
Following Mr. Macko's presentation, Ms. Blachly led the cheering audience in a 2012 version of The Wash Dance.  She was joined by residents Mary Chancellor and Joyce Pemberton in showing off a few new moves.
