Greenspring Prepares to Introduce Newest Version of "My Nutrition" Web Program

SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA - At the end of August, Greenspring retirement community in Springfield, Va. will launch an updated version of the community's existing My Nutrition program.  The program, which was originally launched at Greenspring in July 2010, allows residents to go online and view the nutritional value of each meal item served at the community's four restaurants.  Additionally, the program makes it simple for those with certain food allergies to filter out menu items containing wheat, soy, shellfish, milk, eggs, tree nuts, and peanuts, as well as providing residents quick nutritional information that can be a guide for those closely monitoring their diets due to existing health conditions.
"The program is just another step forward in our efforts to provide healthier options for our residents," said Greenspring's Director of Dining Services, Burt Allman.  The menus at Greenspring provide options for vegans and vegetarians, as well as fruits, vegetables, and even desserts with no added sugar or salt. Additionally, there are no menu items containing trans fat.  "We are really looking forward to rolling out the new version and hope it will allow residents to make healthier decisions even easier," said Allman.
The new version of the program will make it faster for residents to view nutritional facts by limiting the number of clicks it takes to view the information, as well as providing detailed information on the vitamins and minerals in each item.  Residents will now also be able to monitor sugar content in items, which is particularly critical for residents like Betsy Renner.  Renner visits theMy Nutrition site everyday and keeps a watchful eye on her sodium and sugar intake.  "Fifty years ago I was diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia, so I have to be very careful about my diet," said Renner.  For someone who's been meticulous about her diet for decades, the additional information on the new version of My Nutrition will make her meal selections even easier.
The My Nutrition web program can be accessed at  The new version of the system will be rolled out at Greenspring on August 24 and available for residents to utilize on August 28.
