Director of Dining Services recognized for contributions to Springfield, Va. retirement community
Springfield, Va. – Greenspring, a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living, has named Director of Dining Services Tyshan "Ty" Wilson its Leader of the Year. Earlier this month, he was honored along with 19 other leaders, one from each of Erickson Living's communities across the country, at the company's Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Leader of the Year recognition is given to a manager or director who continually demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and inspires, motivates and empowers his or her team members to commit to excellence in serving Greenspring residents.
As Director of Dining Services, Wilson oversees operations at Greenspring's five restaurants featuring diverse dining experiences and distinctive menus, along with the community's team of culinary professionals, including chefs, restaurant managers, service managers, catering staff and servers. He also serves as a key member of Greenspring's Executive Team.
"Ty has created a positive and highly effective team spirit, managing challenges and changes with tenacity," said Executive Director Chandra Kumar. "The results speak for themselves in terms of resident satisfaction and employee engagement, with record-breaking scores for 2018. Greenspring now leads the enterprise in overall quality of dining services. This is a direct reflection of the initiatives Ty has put into place, including training, leadership development and mentoring of his leadership team."
Wilson has more than 20 years of experience in all sectors of the hospitality industry, including hotels and restaurants, health care, country clubs, government and contract management. Prior to joining the team at Greenspring, he served as the area director of operations in the higher education division of a national food service provider. He is a member of the James Beard Foundation and the American Culinary Federation. Wilson holds an associate in applied science degree in culinary arts, a bachelor of science in culinary nutrition, a masters of business administration degree in international business, and a masters of science degree in project management and supply chain management.
"It is a tremendous honor to be recognized as Leader of the Year at Greenspring," said Wilson. "Especially to be nominated by my peers, for whom I have so much respect and admiration. As a community, we had a very strong 20th anniversary year which I believe is a direct result of the way this team works together and the deep relationships that we have. I'm incredibly grateful to be a part of that team and this community."
