July 20, 2015

The Washington Business Journal has named the Springfield retirement community as a 2015 Greater Washington Healthiest Employer

(Springfield, Va.) - Greenspring retirement community has been named one of Greater Washington's Healthiest Employers of 2015 by the Washington Business Journal (WBJ).  Each year, the WBJ honors employers in the region who support healthy lifestyles in the workplace and  recognizes organizations that promote the health and well-being of their employees.  This year, Greenspring is among the top 40 organizations in the D.C. metro area to receive this honor.

"It is an honor for Greenspring to be recognized for the exceptional health and wellness programs and benefits offered on campus," said Tamika Mitchell, Director of Human Resources at Greenspring.  "We know the importance of providing employees with a healthy working environment and how critical that environment is to the success of our overall mission; providing superior care and service to the residents who call Greenspring home."

Greenspring encourages participation in employee health and wellness programs on campus by offering benefits and activities that support a variety of health needs.  One of those benefits includes access to an on-site Employee Health and Wellness Center (EHWC) where employees can see a Nurse Practitioner during work hours.  The EHWC plays an important role in keeping Greenspring's employees healthy by providing onsite acute care and  preventative health checkups, as well as allowing employees to schedule appointments, receive referrals, and complete lab work without ever leaving campus.

The community also regularly spotlights specific health conditions and takes action to help employees stay healthy through a variety of informational discussions, activities, and challenges, such as providing annual flu shots, coordinating walking challenges, and partnering with Weight Watchers.  Additionally, the community promotes a monthly health focus; whether it's heart health in February, men's health in June, or mental health in December, employees can learn about ways to keep their minds and bodies well all year.

Greenspring also provides a variety of options for healthy eating right on campus, as well as access to an online tool detailing the nutritional values of daily menu items. The community is even home to a farmer's market throughout the summer months.

Greenspring's robust health and wellness programs help to attract and retain employees, increase awareness of health-related issues, reduce personal health care costs, and support a positive environment for addressing health concerns.
