‘Living the perfect retirement’

September 17, 2020

New Fox Run resident says she's glad she moved in 2020

Novi, Mich. -- Rachael Frizzell moved to Fox Run, a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living in Novi, Michigan, in March, just a few days before Michigan and most of the rest of the world began sheltering at home to slow the spread of COVID-19—and she says the timing couldn't have been better.

Rachael previously lived in a house on a lake in White Lake Township. It sold in four days with the help of Erickson Realty and Moving Services, a special program that offers complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of a real estate professional.

"I moved in just in time," she says. "Selling my house that fast—I believe some things are meant to happen." Rachael says she's relieved to be living a maintenance-free lifestyle at Fox Run. Her previous house was on an acre of land, and things like taking care of the lawn and repairing appliances were a hassle.

"Now, I am living the perfect retirement. I am really happy here," Rachael says. "If I was living in that big house with all that acreage, I'd be worrying about who is going to cut my grass."

Expert help

Before she even moved to Fox Run, Rachael got to experience the ease and convenience the community offers to residents. Through Erickson Realty and Moving Services, Rachael worked with Fox Run Personal Moving Consultant Kristen Yaquinto and her team of trusted real estate and moving professionals.

Rachael had expert help with downsizing, packing, unpacking, and floor planning.

"It was so easy. I was one of those people who thought, 'I have to get rid of all this stuff,'" Rachael says. "I was just sitting there fretting, worrying about it, and these [professionals] came in and made it so easy. I wouldn't do another move without them."

That was just the beginning, Rachael says. Yaquinto's team also got her new apartment home unpacked and all set up for her so she could immediately start enjoying life at Fox Run.

"When I came to see my new home, it was gorgeous the way they had everything arranged," Rachael says. "Anything I didn't want to move went to a local charity, and I didn't even have to call anybody."

Rachael chose a Harrison-style apartment home at Fox Run. Her two-bedroom, one-bath home features a spacious dining room and a bay window with southern exposure.

"I get a full view of the moon at night," she says. "I don't think I could have chosen a better apartment."

Most of the furniture that she wanted to bring with her was able to fit in her new home, Rachael says. Letting go of the rest of the clutter was easy for her.

"Everything fell into place," she says. "I just love this [apartment home]."

Personalized service

With around-the clock security and a medical center and pharmacy located on campus, Fox Run residents and their families enjoy a sense of security.

"This is the perfect place for me, and my kids don't have to worry about me," Rachael says. "I didn't want my kids to be responsible for me, and they realized that this is the best place for me."

Family affair

Rachael's brother Don also lives at Fox Run. The two are the oldest of nine siblings. Don encouraged Rachael to move to the community, and she says she's now telling her other brothers and sisters how great it is.

"Living close to my brother is priceless at this time in my life," she says. "It would be nice to have all my family living here one day."

Before she moved to Fox Run, Rachael says Don would often tell her about how good the food is. Now, Rachael agrees, and says the quality has been very good. She also appreciates the excellent services provided by Fox Run staff.

"I called down and they ran my prescriptions right up to me as soon as they got them," she says. "They are taking very good care of me. The people here are very sweet. I think you have to pass a course on sweetness to work here."
