NIOVI, MI (October 16, 2012) - Fox Run retirement community captured a Bronze Medal for its participation a month long fitness project held at Erickson Living-managed communities nationwide in which 2,509 people walked one quarter of a million miles (256,965 miles), effectively circling the globe at the Equator more than 10 times.
A total of 212 Fox Run residents, staff, family and friends participated in the project held last month. As a community Fox Run walked 21,903.36 total miles which is just shy of the circumference of earth at the equator (24,901.55 miles). As a community Fox Run also walked in 12 states and 4 countries including Canada, Italy, Argentina and Australia during the month of September..

- Gerri Flowers with 480 miles
- Roy Birmingham with 477.25 miles
- Ralph Rays with 398 miles
The winner of the Fox Run building challenge for most participation was Fountain Pointe.
In an event such as this, everyone is a winner, said Alice Hixson, Fox Run's Wellness Coordinator. "According to the latest research, when we spend a minute walking, we add about two minutes to our life. When we move from a sedentary lifestyle to being moderately fit, we reduce our chance of death from all causes by about 58 percent," she said.
