HOUSTON, TX---For Dan Wagner and his wife Sandra, identifying a continuing care retirement community that possessed a robust faith environment was a consideration in their search for senior living options.
They selected Eagle's Trace, the Erickson Living community in Houston, where the Pastoral Ministries Department provides an inclusive atmosphere for residents of all faiths.
Mary Kate Kell serves as the Pastoral Ministries Manager at Eagle's Trace. "Living in an interfaith community offers a unique opportunity to deepen one's own faith while simultaneously being enriched by customs and beliefs of persons of differing faiths," she described.
"We encourage each person to follow the path that is given to them. Living here allows us to claim who we are and what our faith has given us, sure in the knowledge that this freedom is offered to each resident at Eagle's Trace," she noted.
With over six hundred residents to serve, Pastoral Ministries at Eagle's Trace goes about its mission of honoring the growth and expression of faith in constructive ways:
Worship, by offering a non-denominational Sunday Service, Jewish Shabbat, Catholic Mass, Community Worship and holiday services.
Fellowship, through a weekly resident prayer service.
Education, by developing classes and groups that deal with theology, spirituality and social concerns.
Service, as volunteering offers opportunities to practice one's faith through helping others on campus and in greater Houston.
Spiritual support, offered to residents, family members and employees.
Mr. and Mrs. Wagner are resident leaders of the Sunday Service, a nondenominational ceremony held every Sunday afternoon. A minister from the surrounding area presides over the service that includes hymns, scripture readings, a sermon and prayer list.
By sharing resources and living side-by-side, Mr. Wagner believes that Eagle's Trace sets an example for a world that often experiences its share of religious divide.
"We are indeed a mix of faiths, but our relationships are strong," stated Mr. Wagner. "We are living proof that this can work."
