Eagle's Trace Residents Showcase Talents, Volunteerism at Activities Fair

September 6, 2012

HOUSTON, TX---From the Apple Users Group to the Woodworkers Club, a variety of talents and passions were on display at the Activities Fair held at Eagle's Trace, the Erickson Living retirement community in West Houston.
The August 17th event featured sixty-two (62) resident-led groups and clubs promoting their respective missions and recruiting new members from more than 225 people in attendance.
Tina Felps is the Community Resources Coordinator at Eagle's Trace.  "We have many new faces at Eagle's Trace so the fair provided a unique opportunity to showcase the activities, groups and clubs created by our residents." stated Ms. Felps.  "There is a sense of pride, joy and purpose in what they accomplish, both on our campus and beyond."
Marilyn Black, Chairman of the Resident Life Committee, and Mary Kate Kell, Pastoral Ministries Manager, were instrumental in planning the event.
One of the participants was the Community Outreach Committee, a group of residents who coordinate service projects with charitable organizations.
At its exhibit area, the Committee hosted guest representatives from two nonprofits, Marine Moms & Project C.U.R.E., and two public schools, Barbara Bush Elementary School (Houston ISD) & Maurice L. Wolfe Elementary School (Katy ISD).
Eagle's Trace resident Pat Osborne leads the Committee.  "The Activities Fair was a valuable way for residents to learn about and then connect with prospects to do good in the community.  There are many meaningful ways to share our time and talents."
"That service extends beyond Houston," noted Ms. Osborne.  "We have been involved with charities such as Project C.U.R.E., which delivers donated medical supplies to physicians in more than 125 developing countries, and Marine Moms, which sends supplies to our military men and women who are serving abroad."
