Eagle's Trace Makes Charitable Wager with Sister Community in Dallas on this Sunday's Big Game

October 1, 2014

HOUSTON, TX---The week 5 schedule of National Football League (NFL) features fifteen games across the country.

But for those in the Lone Star State, none is bigger than the renewal of the rivalry between the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys, both sporting records of 3-1.  Fans from both cities will be donning their team colors on Sunday, October 5th to see which squad will hold state bragging rights.

That includes residents and employees from two football-crazed Erickson Living retirement communities, Eagle's Trace in Houston and Highland Springs in Dallas.

"With five Super Bowl titles and thirteen Hall of Famers, the NFL in Texas IS the Dallas Cowboys.  The Cowboys are still America's Team, and I expect Sunday's score to reflect that," stated Matt Neville, Executive Director of Highland Springs.

Not so fast says Ben Cornthwaite, Executive Director of Eagle's Trace.

"What have you done for us lately?" he said.  "The Texans have two division titles in the last three seasons and thirty-three Pro-Bowlers since 2002.  "Since the 'Luv Ya Blue' days of the Oilers, Houston has always been the real heart of football in Texas."

If the Texans win, Highland Springs in Dallas will donate $500 to the Houston Texans Foundation.  With a mission of being "Champions of Youth," the charity partners with groups like the Houston Texans YMCA, Boys and Girls Club and the Houston Food Bank.

If the Cowboys prevail, Eagle's Trace in Houston will donate $500 to the Jason Witten SCORE Foundation.  The star Dallas Cowboy tight end's charity supports youth projects and domestic violence programs in Texas and his native Tennessee.

Eagle's Trace will host a Texas-Sized Tailgate Party on Friday, October 3rd to root on the Houston Texans.  Over 200 residents and guests will be in attendance, donning their Texans' red, white and blue colors as they enjoy great food, football trivia and prizes.

Additionally, two members of the Houston Texans Cheerleading Team will be in attendance to take pictures and sign autographs.

The event will take place from 11am-1pm; Eagle's Trace is located at 14703 Eagle Vista Drive (Houston, TX 77077) directly off Highway 6 near Memorial.

Sunday will mark the fourth time the teams have played.  The Texans beat the Cowboys in their inaugural game in 2002, but Dallas has won the last two meetings in 2006 and 2010.
