Intergenerational ceremony to feature Jr. ROTC from Westside High School, remembrances by veterans of tours of duty, life on the home front
HOUSTON, TX---Six years ago, Robert and Gail Holter attended their first Veterans Day ceremony at Eagle's Trace retirement community in Houston. The couple was so moved that they took leadership roles in coordinating subsequent commemorations.
In 2011, Eagle's Trace will "honor those who need to be honored," as Mr. Holter, a U.S. Air Force veteran states, with an intergenerational ceremony featuring the participation of students from Westside High School and reflections from the home front and tours of duty by Eagle's Trace residents and staff who served in the military.
Over 175 veterans, their family members and fellow residents will be attending the ceremony, which begins at 10am on Friday, November 11th. Four tables of military memorabilia and photographs, spanning the generations and donated by the 129 veterans of Eagle's Trace, will also be on display.
The ceremony will include patriotic songs, a closing prayer and the playing of "Taps" by a trumpeter from Westside High School.
