Devonshire Community Members Enjoy World-Class Senior Living

July 8, 2021

Devonshire at PGA National, an Erickson Senior Living community at PGA National, empowers community members to live their lives to the fullest. The maintenance-free lifestyle provides residents the time to invest in both new activities and favorite hobbies, while a wide range of amenities, activities, and clubs supports healthy social networking. Devonshire residents also take the opportunity to engage in activities outside the community, including traveling and volunteering.

“Without a doubt, I live each day to its fullest,” says Nancy Levine, a community member. “I enjoy spending time surrounded by people. I love exercising, and volunteering is a big part of my life. I’m thrilled that I can do all of this—and more—at Devonshire. I know this is the right place for me. I love my life here.”

A friendly retirement community atmosphere

As a result of Devonshire’s bountiful offerings and vast social network, many Devonshire community members decide to move to the community in their early retirement years.

“When I first visited Devonshire, it was with the idea that I was looking for a place to live in the distant future,” says Nancy DeSantis. “However, once I was here, I realized that if I stayed in my current home, I’d be missing out on the opportunity to meet new people and enjoy a wide range of activities.”

By eliminating the hassles associated with homeownership, community members enjoy valuable time to explore new adventures, hobbies, and interests. For many residents, starting the day off right means heading down to the Verandah restaurant, located in the 65,000-square foot clubhouse, for the weekday breakfast with friends. The opportunities to meet with and socialize with neighbors continue throughout the day, as community members engage in their favorite hobbies. Whether competing in a croquet match on the full-size campus court, joining friends for nine holes on the PGA National courses or fitting in a workout in the state-of-the-art fitness center, everyone is welcome and encouraged to try something new.

“Croquet is now my favorite sport,” says John Hannon, another community member. “I did not know much about the sport when I moved to Devonshire almost six years ago. Now, I prefer it to tennis and golf.”

Other popular activities on campus include attending live performances in the Stratford Performing arts center, yoga classes, monthly jazz concerts, attending continuing education classes offered by Florida Atlantic University, and a variety of exercise classes and religious observances.

Devonshire independent living community offers off campus opportunities for active residents

For community members, social interaction flourishes not only at Devonshire, but in a variety of ways off campus as well.

“The majority of our community members remain active within the greater community,” says Resident Services Manager Marty Bortes. “Whether it is volunteering, attending local church services, visiting friends and family, or traveling the world, community members enjoy the freedom to do it all.”

All Devonshire community members enjoy the privileges of full membership at PGA National. Taking full advantage of this offering, members of Devonshire’s ladies golf group meet weekly at the world-renowned tournament courses, often followed by a delicious lunch. Nancy DeSantis joins her good friend Shirley Alley on daily walks through the award-winning PGA National grounds.

Nancy Levine, a former mediator and arbitrator in the New York City and Brooklyn courts, has volunteered her time at the local Palm Beach Gardens traffic court. “I split my time between activities at Devonshire and off campus,” she says. “You really can do both.”

Word of mouth propels Devonshire demand

Thanks to the worry-free environment, range of amenities, and freedom to enjoy the best life has to offer, demand for the Devonshire lifestyle is at an all-time high.

“I encourage anyone interested in learning more about a future at Devonshire, to call and schedule either an in-person or virtual visit,” says Director of Sales Kathy McCrossin. “Our sales team is committed to helping prospective residents make a decision that is right for them. And there is never any pressure—just a terrific opportunity to see what Devonshire has to offer.”

“Staying active and surrounding myself with people and activities I enjoy helps keep me young,” says Nancy Levine. “I’m so glad I made the decision to move to Devonshire. Life is wonderful.”
