WYPR's Ken Jackson Interviewed at Charlestown

February 21, 2012

"In the Mood" Host Appears as Guest on the Community's TV Station

CATONSVILLE, MD---Ken Jackson, the host of WYPR's popular In the Mood radio show, appeared today on the daily program of the Charlestown TV Studio to discuss his fifty-five year broadcasting career.
The thirty-minute interview was conducted by Phil Mumford, a resident of Charlestown.  Aired live, the program will also be re-broadcast on the Erickson Living retirement community's in-house television station.
Mr. Jackson began his fifty-five year-plus career in broadcasting while attending Emerson College in Boston.  In 1958, Mr. Jackson moved on to commercial radio news broadcasting, spanning twenty years at various stations on the East Coast.
He then resumed his music broadcasting career and radio announcing until his retirement in 2002.
At the behest of WYPR Program Director Andy Bienstock later that year, Mr. Jackson created In the Mood, a weekly radio program that offers its listeners a mix of Big Band favorites with the likes of Sinatra, Ella, Jane Monheit and the Four Freshman.  With the encouragement of his loving wife, Mr. Jackson and his show are still going strong after ten years.
In January, Mr. Jackson paid tribute to a Charlestown resident, Eleanor Laun, who recently passed away.  Ms. Laun served her nation as an Army Nurse in World War II, treating soldiers in the first MASH-style units.
In the Mood airs every Friday evening from 9pm-12am on WYPR, 88.1 FM.
