Talent Development Program Celebrates Graduation at Charlestown

February 5, 2020

Eight new emergency medical responders expand community's Security team

Catonsville, Md. – February 5, 2020 – At Charlestown, a senior living community managed by Erickson Living, eight employees recently celebrated their new status as nationally certified Emergency Medical Responders, expanding the community's Security & Emergency Services Unit to offer the highest levels of care and service for residents.

The employees are members of the second graduating class of a new talent development program launched by Erickson Living last year. As part of the senior living leader's commitment to recognizing, growing, and retaining talent, the program rewards employees who live the organization's values and exhibit strong performance results with the opportunity to advance their careers.

The most recent class consisted of four internal candidates from Charlestown, one from Riderwood, another senior living community managed by Erickson in Silver Spring, Md., and three external candidates recently hired to work at Charlestown. Internal candidates came to the program from previous roles within Dining Services and Housekeeping.

After 80 hours of course work taught by managers from Charlestown and Riderwood under guidance from the American Health Safety Institute (AHSI), all eight employees passed written and practical examinations to become nationally certified Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), certified in CPR, and certified in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Graduates will now receive on-boarding and on-the-job training for their new roles.

"The EMR Talent Development program provides us with officers who are uniformly trained and certified, which helps us provide the highest level of care and service to residents," said Reyn Geise, Security & Emergency Services Manager at Charlestown. "This training, combined with an understanding of Erickson Living's values and a commitment to serving residents, positions our graduates and the community for continued success."

Congratulations to all of the graduates: Janneil Grant, Bre'sche Jones, Christopher Lancaster, Jr., Mark Mollett, Christopher Scott, Kori Smith, Ladasanay Walker, and Kevin Walter.

Charlestown plans to continue the EMR Talent Development Program. For more information about careers with Erickson Living, please visit: https://jobs.ericksonliving.com/.
