CATONSVILLE, MD (March 17, 2015) – Susan Smith, an Executive Assistant at Charlestown retirement community, is proud of her four-year-old granddaughter Ellie Shockey. Ellie is Step-Out Baltimore's 2015 Youth Ambassador.
Ellie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on April 1, 2014. Today she and her family and friends are asking people to please join them on October 4th for Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, which is the American Diabetes Association's signature fundraising walk.
The event has been taking place for more than 20 years and has raised more than $200,000,000 to Stop Diabetes. Step Out is filled with music, food, kids activities, local entertainment and, most importantly, the company of those who truly understand the impact of diabetes.
And this year is more special than ever because it's the 75th Anniversary of the American Diabetes Association. There is no better time than now to celebrate continuous progress working to improve the lives of people with diabetes through research, advocacy and education.
Step Out Baltimore will take place on Sunday, October 4th, at Canton Waterfront Park in Baltimore, MD. The event will have breathtaking harbor views and a walk along the promenade. Be sure to check out the Stop Diabetes Pavilion, where diabetes informational materials and healthy living resources from community partners will be available.
Lunch will be served after the walk. Bring the whole family for fun children's activities such as face painting and pumpkin painting. There will even be bounce houses. And there will be a fabulous dance warm-up.
