Charlestown recently held its largest Treasure Sale in the community's history, bringing in a total of $37,529.20.
Four times a year, Charlestown's Treasure Sale provides an opportunity for shoppers from the retirement community and local area to scoop up bargains on gently used clothing, jewelry, and accessories, furniture, small household items, electronics and appliances.
All proceeds from the event directly support community programs, including Charlestown's Benevolent Care Fund, Scholars Fund, the Staff Appreciation Fund, the Chapel Concert series, and more. The most recent sale surpassed the last record-breaking sale of $37,293.49, which took place in May 2018.
"We are so proud of the Treasure Sale's success," said Patti Santoni, Director of Philanthropy at Charlestown. "It takes a lot of effort on the part of our resident volunteers and staff to make these events happen. To raise this much money to support resident programs makes it all worthwhile."
In addition to the quarterly Treasure Sale, Charlestown residents operate three on-campus stores whose proceeds also benefit these programs. The Ladies' Boutique sells gently used women's clothing, the Treasure Chest sells gently used personal and household items and small appliances, and Treasures Unlimited sells gently used furniture.
Together, Charlestown's Treasure Sale and stores have brought in a total of $164,472 this year. Mark your calendars for the next Treasure Sale, which will take place at Charlestown in the John Erickson Conference Center January 11-12, 2019.
