Annual competition combines fun, winter-time wellness
CATONSVILLE, MD---Whether they hit a powerful smash or finessed a well-placed backspin lob, the players in this year's Charlestown table tennis tournament had all the right shots.
The annual event at the Catonsville-based Erickson Living retirement community featured thirty residents and staff competing in five draws. The matches took place on February 15th in the Erickson Conference Center.
"We had some new players this year, which made for some exciting matches," noted Teresa Reymann, Wellness Manager at Charlestown. "There's nothing like good old-fashioned competition for the residents and staff."
Reymann also noted that the winter months can challenge people of all ages who like to exercise but it's more important than ever, according to medical experts.
"A new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that more physicians are recommending exercise for their patients than ever before. In fact, the number increased by forty percent in the last decade," said Reymann. "So if it's taking a brisk walk or even playing table tennis, regular exercise is beneficial for overall wellness."
